Dear Evelynn,
Today you are one month old. Part of me can't believe that you're here or that you're mine. You are so beautiful and such a good baby... minus the dramatics! Everything you do is done in complete Scarlet O'Hara style! I find myself laughing at you all of the time. Yesterday you started smiling when we smiled at you. I live for this smile. You have a dimple on your right cheek and your chin. I want to dive in them!

When I woke up from the C-section I thought that it hadn't even started yet. I heard them stapling me shut and tried to ask questions about you but the doctors were too busy to answer very well. In recovery I tried to find out more about you but I was pretty out of it. I didn't see you for two hours after your birth. It was the most desperate feeling in the world. Perhaps this is why I haven't been able to put you down since. Remember this if (ok when) I am completely overbearing. I never knew that this kind of love was possible. It scared me a few times in the beginning and I wept at the thought of anything ever happening to you. It's amazing that something so small can completely turn a world on its axis.

I'm not sure what I did right to deserve such a wonderful, gorgeous, well-mannered baby but if I never do anything right again I always have you. Everyone comments on how pretty you are and I can only answer with "I know!". You look like a little Anne Geddes baby.
You still can't wear most of the clothes in your closet because you are so teeny. I can see your cheeks filling out every day and I can't wait for you to get thigh rolls! I daydream about the day that you will do so many firsts and I can't wait - and then in the same breath I dread that you will grow up at all.
I will try to write to you monthly. You change daily and I find that I do too. I am a mommy. I always wanted a daughter. I made a wish and you came true!
Love,
Your mommy
